Plant of the Week. The Snowdrop

I plan to start a new weekly themed post tothe blog called ‘plant of the week’. I have to take my inspiration from anotherwebsite, www.abigailsvintagebridal.co.uk/ who do a frock of the week which gave me the inspiration.

This week’s‘Plant of the week’ is the Snowdrop, (Galanthus)

This humble bulb never fails to amaze me,even during the harshest February’s it pokes it’s little head up regardless of rain,frost, snow or even as we see at moment, quite nice weather.

It looks great either planted in littleclumps or in great carpets of white. You can even grow them in pots to cheer upa window sill or have them as a table decoration.

They are by far best transplanted (moved)or brought from garden centers if you haven’t got a friend willing to give yousome, in the green. This is when the soil and turf that they are growing in isdug up with the patch of snowdrops in it. This in moved to a new position andplanted. I would not recommend buying packets of bulbs as they dry out veryquickly and the success rate is not good. Go on, give them a try, now is the time..

Just seen this. Think the guy in the series 1with the dog and the pipe is great. Love how they are still using the old classicland rovers in the new vehicle advertising. Got to love the Defender.

New Medium, sized garden built in a new build plot.

The garden brief was to create a relaxing area for the client to sit and socializein, as well as to be easily manageable.

The Build was not straight forward as access to back garden was extremelytight meaning everything had to done by hand. Over 3 tones of soil was removedbefore the work of building could start.

The stone used for the patio is Indian mint sandstone and the chippings areblue slate.

The Curved path Leads you between a large a patio for entertaining near the house upto a circular patio covered by a pergola for enjoying the afternoon sun.

The planting will form a lush swath of greens with many textures that are pierced with dramatic yellows and reds to form all summer long colour.

Had to buy a new engine today for the lovely Lola my 110 hard top Defender. Thought this would not be a simple task, but not quite as long and drawn out as it turned out.
It seems that car breakers on eBay are listing stuff just on spec with the hope that they can get the stuff after you have "but it now"ed . Rang 6 people who were theoretically selling 300 tdi engines who said that they did not know what they had in stock! and then did not have any at all. Some who said that they had just sold them and some who i think were then going out to nick them when they had an order.

Any way the good thing is that I've appropriated one that should be on my drive by Tuesday next week. Just hope that i have not brought a duff one...

GW returns with THE DON.

Monty Don was back presenting Gardeners’ World last Friday evening and I was very happy to see him. I have to say that I did not watch last year while Mr. Buckland was presenting. I did not get on with his style, manner, look and to be honest lack of any joy in what he was doing. So, so long monotone man and welcome back THE DON. It also brought home just how little you have to spend on a garden if you live in it for a long time. The box ball garden for example would have cost a large fortune if planted in it's mature state, but with cuttings and time you're talking pounds, not hundreds.

Quite hard frost in the garden this morning. Should have some fleece out to protect the not so hardy plants.

My tulips did not like it very much either. Having said that they were enjoying the late afternoon sun as much as me.
